There was nothing for Auburn fans to have been alarmed over in Saturday night’s 59-13 win over San Jose State.

It was the type of performance which we’ve come to expect from the Tigers.

Let’s grade their performance in each phase of the game:

Offense: A-

Nick Marshall and his crew rolled again this week. The Tigers racked up 493 yards of total offense, really having their way with a thoroughly outmatched Spartan defense. Marshall threw for 101 yards and a touchdown and added 108 more and a score on the ground. Auburn averaged 7.2 yards per carry and ran 73 plays. There is plenty of work to be done in the passing game, however. Marshall has struggled in that facet thus far this season, but the Tigers are too talented at the receiver position to not throw the ball. As odd as it may sound, they put up 59 points, but it was a relatively quiet game offensively. Auburn is going to beat you how they beat you.

DefenseB-

The Auburn defense gave up a big play early, but that would be the only touchdown they would surrender. The Spartans rushed for just 65 yards on 1.4 yards per carry, but sliced-and-diced the Tigers through the air at times throwing for 254 yards. They intercepted San Jose State quarterback Blake Jurich three times, though, and totaled four sacks against the senior signal caller. We saw glimpses of what could be for Auburn on the defensive side of the football.

Special Teams: A

Quan Bray took a punt to the house that put Auburn up 21 in the second quarter, and kicking specialist Daniel Carlson made a 27-yard field goal and flipped field position with two punts. Four of the Tigers’ nine kickoffs were touchbacks.
