Central Florida defensive end Daquan Newkirk (6-3, 245) committed to Auburn on Tuesday morning, becoming the Tigers’ ninth commitment of the 2016 class and fourth potential weapon on Will Muschamp’s defense.

The unranked pass rusher from First Academy in Orlando was offered by Alabama on June 1, but decided on Auburn after a visit on Wednesday.

“Daquan is probably one of the, if not the best, players I have ever had the privilege to coach,” Newkirk’s head coach, Leroy Kinard, told The Orlando Sentinel. “He has a tremendous upside and if he continues to work and continues to do all of the things off the field that prepare him for the field, the sky’s the limit.”

Newkirk’s previous three finalists were Kentucky, UConn and Alabama.

“I’m extremely blessed,” Newkirk said during an interview with 247Sports. “I’m very excited for what’s upcoming for me.”
