Alabama and Auburn combined for 99 points and 1,069 yards in the 2014 Iron Bowl.

The Tigers held a 36-27 lead late in the third quarter, but the Tide scored four touchdowns in less than 15 minutes of game time to storm to an SEC West championship.

As pointed out by AL.com, Malzahn remains bitter that his offense didn’t score more than 44 points.

“We didn’t score touchdowns in the red zone. We should have put 60 on them, and we didn’t,” Malzahn said, according to ESPN.com. “That was the most disappointing thing, when you have a chance to do something special and don’t, and then we gave up all those fourth-quarter points.

“We let them off the hook, but we’ve got them at home this year.”

Of course, Alabama probably feels it could’ve scored more than 55 points if necessary. But that’s got to sting for a Tide defense that this offseason has, several times, mentioned that teams no longer are afraid to face it.

Malzahn and coach Nick Saban each have beaten each other at home in two meetings. The third will take place in Jordan-Hare Stadium to end the regular season. The media voted Bama as the SEC West favorite and Auburn as the SEC favorite, so if the season holds to form, the game will hold College Football Playoff implications.

It’s not so strange to see high scores in the Iron Bowl any more. Alabama scored 42 points in 2011 and 49 points in 2012, while the game featured 62 points in 2013. But something tells me that the ’15 game will feature a little bit more defense.
