Here are some quick thoughts on Auburn’s 34-7 loss to No. 15 Georgia.

What it means: Its schedule and mental errors are taking a toll as Auburn dropped its third game of the season on the road at Georgia on Saturday night. Auburn’s postseason hopes are officially gone, and now are fighting for a mid-tier bowl.

What I liked: There’s nothing positive for the Tigers to take away from Athens. Defense continues to be a nightmare for Ellis Johnson. The offense was held to a season-low output. Penalties and costly mistakes continue to plague the Tigers, who have regressed at an alarming pace this season. Georgia outphysicaled Auburn on Saturday night. After its opening drive, it was quickly down hill for Auburn.

What I didn’t like: Penalties, alignment, communication, third downs, turnovers. Auburn shot itself in the foot all night. Quan Bray fumbled a punt, and a roughing the punter penalty led to 10 Georgia points in the first half. Georgia gained the most rushing yards of any team against Auburn this season. Saturday night’s game was the third consecutive outing in which Auburn committed seven or more penalties. Nothing went right for the Tigers on Saturday night.

Who’s the man: If you have to choose anyone, Cameron Artis-Payne would be the selection. Artis-Payne continues to show great patience in letting running lanes open. He had a nice night rushing for 86 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

Key play: On fourth-and-13 late in the first quarter, Georgia cornerback Damian Swann stepped in front of Quan Bray on a punt causing Bray to muff the punt. Georgia recovered and would score on the ensuing drive.

What’s next: Auburn returns home to face Samford on Senior Day before having to go to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl.
