Often lost in the starting quarterback conversation, the Tigers are still awaiting their first look at what true freshman Woody Barrett can do in an Auburn uniform. While his academics still need to get in order to join the team, it would appear the talented dual-threat prospect will have his chance to win the job starting late this summer.

According to SEC Country’s Brandon Marcello, Barrett’s high school coach Bob Head has indicated his former West Orange High star quarterback will arrive “later this summer” to Auburn. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound quarterback is still awaiting the necessary SAT score to enroll at Auburn, the Orlando Sentinel reported back in January, but Barrett’s high school coach remains confident his former player will make the grades in time to enroll.

Barrett was rated as the nation’s No. 5 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 247 overall recruit for 2016 by 247Sports. Barrett was also an Under Armour All-American last season.

With senior Jeremy Johnson, junior college transfer John Franklin III and redshirt sophomore Sean White continuing to battle it out to become Auburn’s starter this season, if none of them prove to stand out and the Tigers offense once again struggles early in the season, don’t be surprised to see Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee pull the trigger on Barrett.

While most recruiting analyst agree a redshirt season may be in his best interest, Barrett may represent the quarterback on the roster whom possesses the best combination of throwing and running abilities the Auburn offense needs to run at full speed.
