The mother of troubled former Auburn running back Tre Mason believes her son should not be playing football anymore. TMZ obtained footage that shows Mason’s July 27 ATV chase with Palm Beach Police, as well as Tina Mason telling authorities head injuries have left her son with a “10-year-old’s mindset” in response to the officer’s claim that her son should be focused on playing football.

“No, actually, he shouldn’t, because this is the football that drives everybody that nobody even knows about,” she said. “He gets knocked around and everything else. There’s CTE and this head injury thing. You can say he should be playing football, but this is not what it is. After the offseason we could clearly see the change. Like, completely.”

Mason’s mother also claims that her son is unaware of the damage his recent actions have  put on his NFL career.

“As much as he’s accomplished, as hard as he’s worked, as much as he’s built his character, in record-breaking time it’s going downhill because of what’s going on,” she said. “He doesn’t even know. He’s not conscious enough.”

Mason is currently signed to the Los Angeles Rams, but failed to show up to training camp following several legal incidents this offseason. The third-year back faces four misdemeanor charges related to reckless driving, marijuana possession and resisting arrest and has had police called to his home an estimated six times during the past five months.

Mason led the Rams with 765 rushing yards and four touchdowns as a rookie in 2014, but was limited to just 207 yards and one touchdown in 2015. As a junior, Mason led the SEC with 1,816 yards and 23 touchdowns on 317 carries during Auburn’s SEC Championship and BCS title game run in 2013.
