Auburn coasted to a big win over Kent State on Saturday behind JaTarvious Whitlow and Bo Nix, who combined for 4 touchdowns, including a 49-yard flea flicker to Eli Stove.

One notable injury was that DT Derrick Brown suffered an undisclosed injury in the first quarter that kept him on the sidelines the rest of the game.

Auburn opens SEC play next week at Texas A&M.

Here are comments by Gus Malzahn from Josh Vitale and Justin Ferguson:

  • “I really think the quarterback keeping a few times early opened things up in the middle.”
  • Prince Tega Wanogho was “a little banged up from last week,” which is why he did not start. Possible that’s just precautionary. Malzahn added that he was happy with the way Bailey Sharp played in his place.
  • Doesn’t have an update on DT Derrick Brown: “I’ll find out a little more tomorrow.” Added that he doesn’t think it’ll be a serious injury, but he’s not going to provide a substantial update tonight.
  • “We’ve had musical chairs with the injuries to our wide receivers … we had receivers in different positions tonight. When you lose a guy like Seth Williams, it changes a lot of different positions.” He praised Jay Jay Wilson and Matthew Hill tonight.
  • RB D.J. Williams is still dealing with a minor injury.
  • “Our goal was to improve … I think we did that, overall.”
  • “We talked about being better on first down … I think the quarterback keeping it early opened up some things in the middle.”
