In the span of less than 24 hours, Jordan Muschamp went from being a normal college student to the big man on campus.

Prior to Auburn announcing former Florida head coach Will Muschamp as its new defensive coordinator on Saturday, Dec. 13, Jordan Muschamp received a text message that read ‘War Eagle.’

The text came from his Uncle Will.

From then, it was zero-to-60 for the younger Muschamp.

“After it was announced people were following me on Twitter,” Jordan Muschamp told The Plainsman, Auburn’s student newspaper. “I had people finding me on Facebook. It was just kind of weird. Once it was announced I had so many people texting me. I’m hoping that we win every game just because I don’t want people on my back.”

A sophomore majoring in business management, Jordan said he didn’t plan on attending school where his uncle coached. He always knew he wanted to end up at Auburn because it’s where most of his mom’s side of the family attended; Ole Miss was his only backup plan.

The Rome, Ga., native is excited about the spark his uncle has brought back to the Plains,, and hopes it can revitalize a beleaguered Tigers defense in 2015.  Jordan told The Plainsman he has fond memories of attending Auburn games when Will Muschamp was in his first stint as the defensive coordinator from 2006-07.

“When Will was defensive coordinator for Auburn, and we were playing against Florida in ’06, we blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdowns to take the lead and win the game,” Jordan said. “That was the loudest I’ve ever heard it.”

The family love for football runs deep beyond Will Muschamp. Jordan’s father played football for the United States Military Academy in West Point, his grandfather played at the University of North Carolina, his great-grandfather played at Penn State and his brother holds offers from Army and Air Force.

Jordan believes his uncle’s defense paired with head coach Gus Malzahn’s offense will be formidable in 2015. He’s hopeful Will Muschamp’s intensity and passion for the game can equal a quick turnaround for the Auburn defense.

But Auburn players aren’t the only ones faced with pressure with the return of Will Muschamp. The spotlight is now on Jordan Muschamp.

It’s territory that comes with the family name.
