An exclusive club of football fans in the state of Alabama has lost its last member.

Al Jones, a dedicated Alabama fan and the final member of the Iron Bowl Perfect Attendance Club, recently passed away at his Decatur, Alabama home. He was part of a small group of Alabama and Auburn fans to be members of the Iron Bowl Perfect Attendance Club, made up of people who attended every meeting since the rivalry’s renewal in 1948.

Note: The Decatur Daily/WAFF call Jones the last member in their headlines. A Saturday Down South reader has reached out via Twitter to say that Harold Hagler, not Jones, is the last member. The headline of this post has been updated.

WAFF notes that Jones attended 70 straight Iron Bowl meetings, his last being in 2017. (Jones’ absence from the 2018 game in Tuscaloosa is not mentioned.)

Jones was a World War II-era Air Force pilot and 1950 Alabama graduate. He was 93.

Stories of Jones’ fandom of Alabama (and all Auburn opponents) retold by friends and family members can be found in the WAFF article on his passing.

A memorial service is being held Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur.

The post has been updated in regards to Jones being the last member.
