Derek Kief committed to Alabama over the weekend in an elaborate homemade commitment video.

Alabama picked up a commitment yesterday from one of the most talented wide receivers in the country.

Four-star prospect, according to 247Sports Composite, Derek Kief committed to the Tide in arguably the most elaborate commitment video ever.

Kief is 6-5, 200 pounds from Cincinnati, Ohio, and he’s a big-time possession receiver every head coach and quarterback covets.

With Kief’s commitment, Alabama moves up to No. 3 on 247Sports’ Composite Team rankings.

Johnny Manziel will be making his acting debut in a country music video premiering this afternoon.

Johnny Manziel is everywhere.

Manziel’s been making the rounds this offseason, sending shockwaves through college football like no other offseason in recent memory. He was just in San Diego working with QB guru George Whitfield, throwing blindfolded, and dropping bombs in batting practice with the Padres. He’s been courtside at NBA games and living it up on New Years. And with fame comes media to dissect your every move.

But now, Johnny’s gone country.

Manziel, along with former teammate Ryan Swope, will take his act to the country music world, as he will appear in a music video for Texas A&M alumnus Granger Smith’s song “Silverado Bench Seat”, which will make its debut on College Football Live today, via USA Today.

“It goes right alongside what he’s been doing,” said Smith. “He’s entered the pop culture like no A&M quarterback ever has – rarely has any college quarterback entered the pop culture. I think at first it made everyone nervous: ‘How’s this gonna pan out? Is he gonna end up in trouble somewhere?’ But I think we’ve all embraced his personality. This is just him, how he embraces life to the fullest.”

Manziel’s appearance is said to be beside a lovely young coed in an old pickup truck. What’s more Texas than that? Texas forever.

We know the kid can play some ball. Now, let’s see if he’s got any acting ability.

The College Football Playoff official website launched today, and you can vote on the official logo for the future college football postseason institution. Check it out here.

Today we learned that the new college football playoff will be named The College Football Playoff. Creative, no?

Well, it looks like the powers that be weren’t as unanimous on the new logo for the College Football Playoff. The new College Football Playoff website can be found at – you guessed it – collegefootballplayoff.com. The new website has four logos that are in the running to be the official College Football Playoff logo. The four logos are:

Which one do you like best? If you’re looking to make an impact on the future of this institution, head over to the website and cast your vote.

Oh yes, you can also follow the official Twitter account at @CFBPlayoff.

The new website has a countdown – 617 days and counting from today – until the first college football playoff commences. If you thought the BCS era was big, just wait. The 2014 college football season will be a bonanza. The debate, discussion and drama of the BCS was nothing compared to what is coming. Do you think it was tough for a team to swallow being left out of the top two? Just wait until teams start getting left out of the top four. It’s going to be chaos, and it’s going to be amazing.

College football is the best sport on the planet for a number of reasons. The tradition, the athleticism, the pageantry. But don’t kid yourselves… the drama associated with its postseason is a major factor on why this sport is so fascinating. I can’t wait.

These three Georgia breakout players had strong springs and will become big contributors this fall.

Too much emphasis on spring is sometimes over the top, but it’s certainly a time when some potential high-caliber players show they will be major contributors in the fall. Maybe none of the three win a starting job for 2013, but they will certainly be in the rotation and will lend big contributions.

These three Bulldogs put themselves on the map this spring:

Tray Matthews, S: The early enrollee was the talk of the spring during practice. Everyone on the offense talked about his playmaking ability and closing speed. However, the talk mostly centered on his ability to bring the wood on any given hit. Most of all, Matthews continually finds himself in the correct position to make a play, and for such a young player, that puts him well ahead of the game. He looks the part and passes the eye test at 6-0, 195 pounds. Barring injury, Matthews will start alongside Josh Harvey-Clemons, and the two will become quite the young safety tandem.

James DeLoach, OLB: Who? Exactly. The former three-star defensive end prospect didn’t exactly turn major heads out of high school, but he turned the coaching staff’s this spring. The outside linebacker wants a starting job, and he played like it Saturday in the G-Day Game, finishing with six tackles and a sack. DeLoach could play either middle or outside, but he plays well in space, something that Todd Grantham and Mark Richt both love. DeLoach and Jordan Jenkins could be quite the outside linebacking tandem helping to replace the 28-sack void left by Jarvis Jones.

Later player to emerge: WR Jonathon Rumph was the biggest surprise of G-Day. The JUCO transfer reeled in two touchdown catches, and he hadn’t really played to his potential for much of the spring. The Bulldogs will produce one of the sexiest receiving corps in the SEC for one of the most potent passers in the country. This offense should be electric, and if Rumph plays like he did Saturday, this group could be even better. Hopefully Saturday’s performance gives him confidence heading into fall.
