Bill Edwards
Bill Edwards served as Vanderbilt’s 14th head coach, compiling a 21-19-2 record in four seasons.
A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, he also coached the Western Reserve Red Cats (49-6-2) and Wittenberg Tigers (98-20-4) to great success, including five unbeaten seasons.
Edwards spent time in the NFL as well as head coach of the Detroit Lions and a Cleveland Browns assistant under Paul Brown. (Edwards was Brown’s roommate at Ohio State.)
Steve Belichick played for Edwards at Western Reserve and for the Lions. Edwards became the godfather to Belichick’s son. His name? Bill Belichick, in honor of Edwards.
Edwards also served as the athletic director at Vanderbilt and Wittenberg.
