Dudy Noble

Dudy Noble was a four-sport athlete at Mississippi A&M (now Mississippi State) from 1911-1915, and coached college football, basketball and baseball at a handful of schools in the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s, including both Ole Miss and Mississippi A&M. He was hired as the head football coach at Ole Miss in 1917 and registered a 2-7-1 record in two seasons at the helm of the Rebels. He would later return to the gridiron as head coach at Mississippi A&M in 1922, posting a 3-4-2 record.

Noble is best remembered as a baseball coach, and Mississippi State’s baseball field, Dudy Noble Field, was named in his honor in 1949. He was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1961 and the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1967. Noble passed away in 1963 at the age of 69.
