Guy Morriss

Guy Morriss has coached football at the high school and college levels since 1988, including seven seasons in the SEC at Kentucky and Mississippi State. He began his time in the SEC as the offensive line coach at MSU in 1996 and moved on to Kentucky in 1997 to serve as the offensive coordinator under then-coach Hal Mumme for four seasons. After a recruiting scandal forced Mumme out as head coach, Morriss took over as the interim coach for the 2001 season, leading UK to a 2-9 record. He was hired as the full-time head coach beginning in 2002, leading the Wildcats to a resurgent 7-5 mark.

Many fans remember Morriss as the recipient of a premature Gatorade bath during the ’02 season in Kentucky’s historic loss to LSU on a Hail Mary referred to as the Bluegrass Miracle. Still, Morris ended the season with a winning record and was hired away from UK by Baylor prior to the 2003 season. He spent five years as the Bears’ head coach and four more as the head coach at Texas A&M-Commerce. He has a career 37-85 record as a college head coach.
