J. A. Pierce

J. A. Pierce was the University of Tennessee’s first-ever head football coach, taking over the program prior to its inaugural season in 1899. He led the Volunteers to an impressive 6-2 record in their first season of existence, and Pierce’s bunch followed that season up with a 3-2-1 campaign in 1900. He left Tennessee after two seasons with a combined record of 9-4-1 and a 2-3-1 record against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association competition.
