It's nothing new. I have been following college football for over 50 years and the mantra is the same. Lose early and you have time to recover. Lose late in the season and you stay down. In this case, Georgia still does have a chance to recover via the SEC Championship Game. Also, Auburn lost to those 2 teams by very narrow margins. The score of the Auburn - Georgia game makes it seem closer than it was. That late Georgia TD was on Auburn's 2's and 3's. Beaten in a dominating fashion late is the season would normally be the kiss of death for a team. In the present system, Georgia is sitting pretty well.
I hate to see it. I have great respect for Coach Miles. I am afraid that LSU will soon regret this move.
WeagleInGermany....The record of who Petrino has beaten in openers doesn't mean that this will be an easy game. Petrino is an offensive guru. However, it does mean that his having that streak shouldn't be a factor. I am a little worried as well, but I think we will win. War Eagle!
WeagleInGermany....I saw a list a of Petrino's opening game wins a couple of days ago. I can't find it now. It included 5 games against Kentucky and one against Miami (during a bad season), and the rest were not Power 5 schools. All of the teams that he has beaten in the opening weeks had bad records those years. All were either losing records or close.
You mention that Les Miles isn't the best game manager. I would say that Saban belongs in that category as well. I'll give Saban his due for recruiting and coaching throughout the week, including hiring really good assistants. However, he sometimes makes some bonehead decisions during games. Kick 6 anyone? There are many others that I have noticed that weren't the smartest moves, but they are usually covered by the fact that he has won in spite of these decisions.
Thanks, Murf, for a great analysis. I can hardly wait for August 31st. Time to get this train on the tracks.
With Auburn's offense, they don't need an elite defense...just a decent one. We may have given up 30 points several times last season, but look how many we scored. Against Alabama, the points Auburn scored would have stood up with just a decent defense. After that horrible, mistake-filled loss to A&M last season, the entire team just never had that illusive chemistry again. I, for one, think that will be different this season. A great team comes back from disappointments. That one didn't. I think this one will. My big hope for this year's Tigers, other than wonderful chemistry and few injuries, is that they get the problem of the numerous penalties and fumbles solved.
For Auburn, LB Kris Frost is now returning. He was the leading tackler in 2013 and the second leading tackler in 2014. That should help the defense under Coach Muschamp to rise to new heights.
At least rolling trees AFTER a game isn't noise pollution. The sound is so irritating, I don't know how people stand it for 3-4 hours. The pollution caused by paper is cleaned up by Auburn and doesn't cause anyone a nerve condition or hearing loss.
The ONLY artificial noise makers allowed in the SEC are those stupid cowbells. If a fan brought a different kind, it would be disallowed. THAT is why cowbells...to give the MSU offense a taste of it's own medicine. Don't be a moron.
A 2 Star player who was only the 8th best player in that hot bed of football talent, Massachusetts. He is just sour grapes, because no SEC schools offered other than Vandy. Freshmen often have big mouths, and the sometimes later regret some of the things that come out of them. Even with a young team, I believe and hope that LSU sends them back north with their collective tails between their legs.
I don't think bama was eliminated because the win too much to quality. I suspect it was because your students and some other fans leave at halftime. Also, because the fans make asses of themselves by yelling at people, who are fans of other schools and tell them they are idiots. Many bama fans represent the school and the program in a most unflattering light. That does not a good fan base make.
You got that right. I even had one follow me home after giving me the finger, blocking my driveway and cursing at me. By the way, I was a 61 year old woman at the time, driving a sedan with a couple of Auburn stickers on it. I had to threaten to call he police to get him to leave. I was afraid for weeks that he would come back. Great fan base there.
What is with the 13th day of the month? All except 5 of these decommitted on the 13th of a month. Those five decommitted on either the 12th or 14th. Watch out for 1/13/2014.
