Not sure where to begin, but the information here is so poorly researched I felt the need to reply. This year's 2 deep had more Fr/So than Jr/Sr, so not sure where you get that "Derek Mason's group was heavy with upperclassmen and freshman didn't play very much." Anywho, here's what you should have found in your research: 2015 True Freshman class: Name POS Yr Starts GP Kyle Anderton FB FR 0 11 (caught 1 TD) Josh Crawford RB FR 0 7 Sam Dobbs TE FR 1 7 (Started last game) Jordan Griffin LB FR 0 10 Jay Hockaday LB FR 0 8 Dare Odeyingbo LB FR 0 10 (D Line rotation) Jared Pinkney TE/WR FR 0 1 (Injured in 1st game) Andrew Rector S FR 0 9 (blocked a punt) Donovan Sheffield CB FR 0 6 (2 deep) Kyle Shurmur QB FR 5 5 (Starting QB at end of season) Justin Skule OL FR 2 7 (Started at RT before getting injured) Josh Smith LB FR 0 12 (2 deep, played a ton) Redshirt FR from the 2014 class: Starts GP Khari Blasingame ILB RS FR 1 12 Bailey Granier OL RS FR 3 6 Cole Hardin C RS FR 0 1 (Backup C) Bryce Lewis DB RS FR 0 11 Ronald Monroe WR RS FR 0 10 Bruno Reagan OG RS FR 2 11 (Starting G at end of season) LaDarius Wiley CB RS FR 0 12 Charles Wright OLB RS FR 0 12 Of course, that doesn't include the many players from the 2014 class that played as Freshmen, so here are the true Sophomores: Starts GP Tre Herndon CB SO 12 12 Nifae Lealao DT SO 4 12 Dallas Rivers RB SO 0 12 Caleb Scott WR SO 9 12 Trent Sherfield WR SO 12 12 Emmanuel Smith S SO 2 11 Arnold Tarpley S SO 7 12 So, of Mason's 2015 class, 11 guys saw the field during at least half the games with multiple players either starting or in the 2 deep. From the 2014 class, 13 guys played nearly every game and 9 of them started at some point. Between the two classes, 27 played, 24 regularly, 12 started at some point and all of them will be back next season. Hardly as described above. Skule, Reagan are two near locks to start next season. As for the defense, 6 of the 11 starters at the end of the season were Sophs or R-Sophs. Only 3 were Srs. Next season, I would only project 2 or 3 starters on defense to be Seniors. So still a lot of room to improve and full of guys that got a ton of experience this season.
