The first world that comes to mind is 2017. In that world a 1 loss Alabama team got in the playoff over THE Ohio State because it's loss was better. It's not good to get blow out.

Alabama deserves to be ranked ahead of UT. It's not about the wins. It's about the losses. Tennessee got dominated by Georgia and South Carolina. Alabama played their worst game in 100 years (points and penalties) and UT still needed some home cooking and the ugliest made FG I've ever seen in my life. UT FUMBLED the ball with 7:30 left in the 4th Alabama recovered it. That was not forward progress. That was a fumble. Lets argue more over who the first loser is.
