He’s not blaming what happened on anyone else. He’s just saying if we have strong people (“leaders”) that are willing to stand up and make the right decisions even when it means p1ss1ng people off, that things like this tragedy would happen less often. He’s right. Why didn’t his friends or GF step up and say, “I can’t let you potentially ruin your life.” Then take his keys. You know why… they would have had to fight/argue with him.
The problem isn’t the NIL. The NCAA should have never had so much control that they could forbid a student or athlete from profiting from their own NIL or talents. They deserve to be able to make their own money. Now the transfer portal + NIL is a problem. Giving these athletes NIL money and the ability to transfer anytime and anywhere is a disaster. It leads to tampering by other schools (and don’t believe the BS that other schools aren’t calling your players) and athletes jumping around to get a better deal. Ultimately, it’s going to continuw to create chaos in the sport and the rich will still get richer. Yes, every coach uses the portal because it’s available, that’s doesn’t mean they like it. They just understand the rules as they are. There has to be limitations… even the NFL understands that you can’t have players going all over the place and now that they can profit from NIL, the coach vs. money argument is no longer valid.
First, Skip Holtz is a good coach. LaTech returned almost their entire defense from last year and they brought in several former P5 starters on offense. Second, turnovers (fumbles) and penalties killed State drives early on. Otherwise, they were moving the ball consistently. I really like where the WRs are going and like that we are catching the ball more on the run instead of the stop and catch used by Mullen. Finally, the defense is mediocre/bad. Yes, we are pretty good against the run, but any ball caught 5 or more yards downfield will gain 8-10 YAC. Secondary is still lost and doesn’t look improved over the past 2 years. Also, Arnett is a horrible game caller at this point.
This! It’s his first year with inherited players and QBs that were recruited for his style of offense. State fans seem to think we were a Top 10 offense last year, but Moorhead had really destroyed whatever power game was left when Mullen left. Not to mention, Mullen was successful off the running QB, not passing. This is an overhaul and fans have to be patient!
Mullen was initially successful because he inherited a rushing offense and RB that was at the top of the SEC. He had plenty of teams that stepped off the bus unprepared and got smashed in the mouth (@Auburn) over the years. MSU fans seem to forget that our dysfunction started 2 years ago under Moorhead. I’ve never seen a team as undisciplined and unprepared as I saw under Moorhead... consistently slow, multiple delays and false starts, and just missed passes and dropped balls. State moved the ball against Arkansas and Kentucky with enough defense to win, but QB turnovers killed the scoring opportunities. Leach is too good at what he does, he will improve the offense... it would be a horrible bet against one of the most prolific OCs and HCs ever.
Spurrier wasn’t talking about the deep ball, but the power run game. He was alluding to the fact that a TE would continue to fit into the pass lineups/positions that Leach uses, but is a big enough player to power run the ball at times when needed. Honestly, Leach did use more running plays than normal during the second half and was able to move the ball consistently. I think his plan was to utilize Hill as that player but he went down. Those turnovers and failed 4th and 1’s killed him. If you take FGs on at least 2 of those interceptions, State is kicking for the lead instead of going for it on 4th D.
No one wanted Moorhead fired because we expect to be in the SECCG and CFP every year. MSU fans aren’t the stupid, ignorant folks everyone keeps implying. Moorhead has fell into 14 wins as much as he has coached to 14 wins. Most fans wanted Moorhead fired because his team was dysfunctional and there was a clear lack of progression. How long does it take to resolve unsportsmanlike penalties? How many false starts before you clean it up? Mullen didn’t win 10 games every season, but his teams consistently played hard and had a chance against a lot of good teams. How do you take the top defense and a team that returned almost every offensive player and manage to finish near the bottom of the NCAA in offense plus win only 8 games?
Rich Rod might not be a bad choice with AJ Jefferson on the roster, but I still think he takes over at Ole Miss.
It can be obnoxious if someone is ringing right beside your head, but thats rare and you usually get used to the sound. The noise level on the field is overstated. Yes, it can be loud, but at field level, its just a uniform noise, not the obnoxious clanga you get from being in the stands. SEC schools wanted to be petty because Sherrill was beating them.
