I disagree. Mac was a four star QB who committed to Kentucky and was expected to compete immediately for playing time before deciding to join jalen and Tua at bama. The biggest surprise Saban QB was by far Blake Sims. Dude ushered in the dual threat era at bama and put the game manager out to pasture.
I’m ok with the pick of Jalen at one and the omission of Mac (considering his body of work was only one season). However, I would like to know the rationale for omitting Jonathan Allen. Also, when you really thing of the rationale applied to pick Hurts as #1 I can’t help but to realize he wasn’t the first to do what he did. That rationale can be applied to Blake Sims. A guy who played three different positions in his career (wr, rb, & qb). He was loved by his teammates and never caused problems. when he finally got his shot to play qb Coker was brought in and the entire fan base wrote him off. He beats out Coker. to start and had one of the best single qb seasons ever. He shows the nation that Bama is more than just ground and pound. Also lays the ground word for the use of a dual threat an in Saban’s system who beat you with his arm but made you respect his legs. He also lead the ultimate comeback at auburn after a dismal first half. His one season change the the Bama approach to offense.
Here is nothing wrong with being nervous; however, insinuating that you left because your said you were kinda verified his comments about your competitiveness.
How do is Jonah Williams ranked lower than Shea Patterson. Williams started all season and some would argue that he was the highest graded lineman on a team that rushed for 3000+ yards and 30+ TDs. Nothing against Patterson, but he only played 3 games and, outside of his first game, looked like a true freshman with a high ceiling
If Mariota's history at Oregon and his relationship with the previous head coach whom he played for couldn't sway Tua, I doubt a guy with no connection to the university other being na!ed hc this week will be able to do it
Saban has proven time and time again that he doesn't simply recruit a kid because some service thinks he is a five star player. Did anyone see what the walk-on receiver and former hs QB Renfroe did to the 5star Fitzpatrick in the title game? Saban has even said that part of his evaluation process includes the kid's ability, potential, work ethic, and fit. How man 3 star kids has the man offered who have gone on to be solid contributors? The fact that this kid says he "felt" that he should have been offered earlier tells me all that I need to know. Now compare his story with the running back saban signed out of Oklahoma. Kid put up monster numbers and it was until late that the offers came in ( ironically Bama offered around the same time they offered this kid). The RB says his coach kept telling to work hard and people would notice and eventually they did.
The issue that I have with this article is that it suggests State can beat BAMA, which is possible, it's that the author tries to paint he possibility as so simple. In the process, he does an injustice to the individual performances by each of those qbs. In everyone of those losses those young men played exceptional games. While it easy to play with numbers and come up with averages it takes away from such factors as the swagger Manziel and Garcia had, or the chip Cam played with, the will not lose attitude of Tebow, and my lord the lucky plays of Kelly. Not to say this while peering through fangoggles, but beating a BAMA defense is never simple put possible. It takes, not an average of numbers and stats, but a combination of moxy, swagger, won't lose attitude, and a pair of steel cajones because bama's defenses causes opposing qbs to do some soul searching. The ones that rising will look into the valley of the shadow of death, but unlike meer mortals these men will fear no evil.
