Oh, what could have been.

Asking “what if?” is a huge part of being a sports fan, where you second-guess each and every move your favorite team makes.

In the aftermath of Clemson’s come-from-behind national championship game victory over Alabama, Watson gave Florida fans a major “what if?” scenario.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Watson said Florida was his preferred school through his sophomore year in high school, when coach Urban Meyer resigned and Watson fell in love with Clemson:

“Growing up, Florida was my dream school,” Watson said. “I was a huge fan. I loved Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, all those guys, and I just wanted to go there.

“I grew up an Urban Meyer fan, I loved the way he coached, loved the way he did things. So growing up, Florida was the school I was going to.”

Who knows what would have happened if Will Muschamp had been able to reignite Watson’s interest in the Gators?

With the defense the Gators have had the past couple of years, it’s not hard to imagine the SEC Championship Games turning out a little bit differently with Watson running the offense.

Alas, the Gators’ search for a reliable quarterback continues as Watson and Tigers celebrate with the college football championship trophy.
