After six seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to part ways with Riley Cooper.

The former Gator receiver, who was drafted in the 5th round by the Eagles during the Andy Reid regime, was released on the first day in which teams could cut players who’d finished the 2015 season on an active roster.

Cooper, 28, had signed a five-year deal prior to the 2014 season that was worth a guaranteed $8 million after having his best season as a pro. He registered 47 catches for career-highs in receiving yards (835) and receiving touchdowns (8).

However, after following that up with just 577 receiving yards and then 327 yards last season, the team made the decision to cut him. Cooper will still account for a $2.4M cap hit to the franchise next season.

The team is expecting a lot from recent high draft picks at the position in former Vanderbilt receiver Jordan Matthews (2nd round in 2014), Oregon’s Josh Huff (3rd round in 2014) and USC’s Nelson Agholor (1st round in 2015).

The Eagles just hired a new head coach less than a month ago, hiring former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson.
