The Florida Gators have been maddeningly inconsistent this season, but still managed to land a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Their reward? A first-round game against a tough No. 7 seed, Nevada. The Wolf Pack have been one of the best mid-major teams for a couple of years now, so that matchup should be interesting.

On Monday’s episode of “SportsCenter” on ESPN, though, analyst Jay Williams said he thinks the Gators have all the makings of a team that could make a deep tournament run (via 247Sports):

“I think Mike White’s team is … look, I just love their guard play,” Williams said during Monday’s appearance on SportsCenter. “They were one play away from taking Auburn to overtime in the SEC Tournament, potentially could’ve won that game and then played in the championship vs. Tennessee. When I think about Florida, I think about their guards and their guards can really defend — KeVaughn Allen, Jalen Hudson.

“When you think about Nevada, you have to stop those guards. Their average age on their teams is 23 years old. I not only have Florida beating (seventh-seeded) Nevada, but I also have Florida beating (No. 2) Michigan. Michigan can get stuck offensively sometimes.”

That’s a tough road for the Gators to reach the Sweet 16, but Williams is a believer in Mike White’s squad.
