Florida announced Saturday that two new coaches, defensive backs coach Corey Bell from USF and offensive line coach Brad Davis from North Texas, have been added to the Gators coaching staff.

“We are excited to have Corey and Brad join our staff. Corey has played in the SEC and has deep roots in the state of Florida,” coach Jim McElwain said in a school release. “Brad also has strong relationship in our recruiting areas and has won championships as a player. Both are good teachers who will help our players be successful on the field and beyond their playing days.”

The hires come hours after it was reported that UF defensive backs coach Torrian Gray was departing for the Washington Redskins, Jim McElwain has hired his replacement and also filled the opening left by former offensive line coach Mike Summers last month.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to join the Gator football family and being part of one of the most powerful brands in all of college athletics,” Bell said. “I have a lot of respect for Coach Mac and I’m looking forward to working with a great group of players and staff.”

Davis visited The Swamp in September when UF hosted North Texas in Week 3.

“I can’t wait to get to Florida and get right to work,” he said. “I can’t wait to meet the players, spend time with them and help them achieve their goals. I’m also looking forward to bringing kids in who have values that fit the goals this championship-level program.”

Bell has an SEC background and ties to current Gators staffers and the South Florida area. A Miami native, he played cornerback at South Carolina and a was a teammate of UF defensive line coach Chris Rumph. He was the head coach at Miami Edison Senior High School from 1997-2007.

After coaching at Miami Edison, Bell joined current UF defensive coordinator Randy Shannon’s Miami Hurricanes staff as the director of football operations from 2007-10. After Shannon was fired, Bell returned to high school coaching as the head coach at American Senior High School from 2011-13.

Bell coached defensive backs at FAU the past two seasons and had recently accepted a position as secondary coach and recruiting coordinator at USF.

Davis, a Baton Rouge, La. native who played for Oklahoma from 1999-2002, has been the offensive line coach the past two seasons at North Texas (2016) and East Carolina (2015). Prior to that he was co-offensive coordinator at FCS school James Madison. He has SEC experience as a grad assistant at Texas A&M for two seasons.
