The Florida Gators will be without presumed 2017 starting QB Luke Del Rio when spring ball kicks off.

According to a team announcement on Thursday, the rising junior will be held out of spring camp with a shoulder injury.

Del Rio, who missed significant time in 2016 due to injuries, finished the year with 1,358 yards passing to go with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Del Rio’s injury will provide valuable reps for rising redshirt freshmen QBs Kyle Trask and Feleipe Franks, who are expected to split first-team action in Del Rio’s absence.

Whether either one is able to earn the starting job when the 2017 season starts, though, remains to be seen.
