In July, Florida State kicked De’Andre Johnson off its team. Now he could end up with the Seminoles’ archrivals.

Florida is one of the teams recruiting Johnson, who was a four-star recruit a year ago as a senior at First Coast High School in Jacksonville.

Johnson attended Saturday’s Florida State-Florida game and watched the game with other Florida recruits. He was there with his brother Tyreke, a high school sophomore the Gators are also interested in.

Johnson was the No. 12 dual threat quarterback in the Class of 2015, according to Rivals. In his high school career, he passed for 11,697 yards and 131 touchdowns, and also had 23 rushing touchdowns. He signed with Florida State and enrolled at the school.

But his Seminoles career ended before it even began.

In June, Johnson was involved in an altercation with a woman at a bar in Tallahassee, and allegedly punched her in the face. Florida State dismissed him after the surveillance video was released.

Johnson was charged with misdemeanor battery. His trial will begin on Dec. 14 in Tallahassee. The woman was not charged.

Video of the incident can be viewed in this story on al.com. The video contains graphic content, and may not be suitable for all audiences.

He is currently taking classes at East Mississippi Community College, but is not playing football. He still has four years of eligibility remaining.

In May, the SEC passed a rule that prohibits schools in the conference from accepting transfers who have been disciplined for “serious misconduct” at another school. It is unclear whether or not Johnson’s actions constitute “serious misconduct” in the SEC’s eyes.
