Birmingham, Ala. Jackson-Olin product Jammal Abrams has outgrown his previous commitment to Florida.

Abrams, a 3-star recruit, pledged to Florida on Feb. 24 as a linebacker. His high school coach, Tim Vakakes, recently revealed that Abrams is back on the market as UF and other teams are re-evaluating Abrams at a new position better fit for his current and anticipated size.

“He’s 6-foot-3, last year he was about 210 (pounds),” Vakakes told 247Sports about Abrams recruitment. “He’s starting to fill out and he’s up to 245 now, on that frame. When Florida originally offered him he was about 210, maybe 215. He’s so strong and powerful, we knew it was only a matter of time before he started to gain good weight.

“Not many colleges are going to sign a kid at 6-3, 245 (at linebacker) with more weight to gain. Once Florida saw how big he has gotten, he’s not a linebacker anymore, so they’re reevaluating him at end along with everybody else.”

Abrams has already made the position change to end at the high school level. Vakakes predicts Abrams will soon reach 265-270 pounds.

Abrams currently has eight scholarship offers, including Ole Miss and South Carolina. He has also shown interest in Alabama, Auburn and LSU, but so far, the only offer out of the SEC West belongs to the Rebels.

While it doesn’t sound like Abrams will be playing linebacker in college, his highlights at the position last season give an idea of his athleticism and playing style.
