The Florida Gators are hot on the recruiting trail following a weekend that was loaded with elite prospects in Gainesville, and Jim McElwain just landed his third commitment in two days, this time flipping a Houston commit.

Three-star safety Donovan Stiner flipped from Houston to Florida Sunday night, and it’s big for the Gators to land a prospect from the state of Texas.

Stiner is rated as the nation’s No. 54 overall safety in the class of 2017, as well as the state of Texas’ No. 107 prospect, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. Florida offered Stiner a scholarship last week, and the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Bellaire, Texas, native pulled the trigger following his official visit this weekend.

McElwain and Florida’s staff have been criticized recently for the lack of elite prospects in the Gators’ 2017 recruiting class, but Florida finally has a little momentum heading into Wednesday’s National Signing Day.
