During Jim McElwain’s tenure at Florida, the Gators have lost eight games (19-8), but only one at home. UF’s official Twitter account cited the 11-1 home mark as “motivation” for the team continue to defend The Swamp with the hashtag “#mondaymotivation.”

If you’re wondering why Florida has only played 12 home games over the past two seasons while Alabama played 14, it’s because of Hurricane Matthew. The Gators’ were originally scheduled to host LSU on Oct. 8, but the game was postponed due to the hurricane’s presence off the state’s east coast.

When it came to rescheduling the game, Nov. 19 was quickly identified as the target date as the Gators and Tigers both had non-conference games scheduled. LSU AD Joe Alleva was adamant that his team would not finish the 2016 season by playing three games on the road, and lobbied against playing the game in Gainesville.

A compromise was eventually reached in which Florida agreed to Baton Rouge in exchange for hosting the game in both 2017 and ’18. In the process, UF’s Nov. 19 game with Presbyterian was scrapped, dropping the team’s home-game total for 2016 from seven to five games.

UF coach Jim McElwain likes to refer to the Gators’ 16-10 victory over LSU in Tiger Stadium as winning a home game on the road. The team’s social media staff piggybacked the “#mondaymotivation” tweet with a little reminder for LSU that Florida considers last year’s meeting a Gators home game, even though it was played in Death Valley.

It appears Florida isn’t going to let LSU forget about the game any time soon.
