The Florida Gators landed a big-time commitment from 2017 quarterback Jake Allen.

The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, native will be one of the pillars of the ’17 recruiting class, and Allen becomes Jim McElwain’s first quarterback commit since he’s been at Florida.

247Sports ranks the four-star prospect as the No. 14 pro-style quarterback and the No. 37 overall player in the Sunshine State.

Allen told ESPN he just felt like it was time to pull the trigger.

“After speaking with my head coach and my quarterback coach, we believe that this makes the most sense for me,” Allen told ESPN. “I like the offense that [offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier] runs and it’s just the way it felt when I was up there on my visit the last time — it just felt like family and I was comfortable there. I felt ready — I feel like it’s time to pull the trigger and get started on this recruiting class.”

Florida is still recruiting quarterbacks in the 2016 recruiting class, and four-star Texas native — and Elite 11 finalist — Dillon Cole-Sterling looks like one of the top options.
