Coming off a huge last-second victory against Tennessee, Florida has to move on from the emotion of that game in a hurry as the Gators travel to Kentucky to take on an undefeated Wildcat team this weekend.

Of course, much of the talk surrounding this game is the 30-year winning streak the Gators have over the Wildcats. Despite the fact Kentucky is the undefeated team in this matchup, the pressure in this game could be all on the Gators.

During his appearance on the weekly SEC Coaches Teleconference, McElwain talked about the matchup. Here’s a summary of what was said during the call:

  • Really looking forward to finding out some things about ourselves. Now the fun part comes, playing in a soldout arena, we’ll find out a thing or two about our selves. This is as complete a team as (Kentucky) has had since I’ve been here. They force you to be one-dimensional on offense.
  • Has the ending of the Tennessee game carried over to this week? I’m not sure if I’ve ever been apart of a finish like that, the last play of over 50 yards. Last year we won on the last play on the goal line (vs LSU). That was something else.
  • Duke Dawson’s status for Kentucky? The concussion protocol is something that every program has. We’ll see, we will follow the protocol. He did not practice Tuesday.
  • Your one-possession record is 16-4. Any idea why? That’s pretty good, I haven’t monitored it. Whether it’s spring ball or fall camp, this goes all the way back to my time at Eastern Washington. You actually practice these scenarios so that you can tell your guys that you’ve done it. I’m not sure if that is why or not.
  • Thoughts on the SEC East so far? I’d love to have a big overview, I just know that Kentucky is all I’ve really seen. In knowing that, right now, Kentucky is in the driver’s seat.
