Clemson is looking for a new defensive line coach, but Florida assistant Chris Rumph will not be returning to the Palmetto State according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.

“He wants to remain at Florida on (Coach) Jim McElwain’s staff,” a source told McMurphy.

McElwain added Rumph to the Gators’ staff in February 2015, replacing initial defensive line coach hire Terrell Williams, who left to return to the NFL. Rumph, a native of Orangeburg, S.C., coached at Clemson from 2006-10 before leaving for Alabama in the 2011 season, McElwain’s last as offensive coordinator with the Crimson Tide. He stayed at Alabama through the 2013 season before joining the Texas staff in 2014.

Rumph is Florida’s top recruiter in the 2017 cycle, ranked No. 46 nationally and No. 23 in the SEC by the 247Sports Composite. He has been the primary recruiter on four of UF’s 15 commitments.

Long-time Clemson defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks recently announced his retirement and co-defensive coordinator Marion Hobby, also a defensive line coach, left to take a position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
