Ex-Florida coach Will Muschamp refused to pursue transfer option Sam Ukwuachu any further in May 2013 when he learned of the defensive lineman’s history of violence against women from sources within the Boise State Athletic Department, according to a recent report by Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel and Thayer Evans via The Inside Read.

Ukwuachu, a Baylor football player who was found guilty last week and sentenced to six months in jail for the 2013 sexual assault of a Baylor soccer player, was interested in transferring to the Gators before Muschamp shot it down, says two former Florida athletic department employees.

“There was no way,” one of the former Florida employees said, according to The Inside Read. “(Muschamp) wouldn’t touch him.”

Baylor coach Art Briles’ recent refusal to admit his mishandling of the situation and that he had no knowledge of Ukwuachu’s past at Boise State other than “insubordination issues” has resulted in a media firestorm and terrible look for the university.

Earlier this year, the SEC banned transfers with sexual assault, domestic violence or other forms of sexual violence at their previous school. Nick Saban was not in favor of said rule after former Georgia defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor, who transferred to Alabama after an arrest for domestic violence charges got him dismissed from the Bulldogs.

Taylor was later dismissed at Alabama after he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
