Michigan and its coach Jim Harbaugh are making headlines this week for their trip to Rome for team-building activities.

Steve Spurrier doesn’t think Harbaugh should get used to making annual spring trips to Europe.

The Head Ball Coach discussed a number of topics on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Wednesday, including Florida’s quarterback situation. Ever since he stepped away from coaching, Spurrier has been an ambassador and consultant to Florida’s athletic department. The Head Ball Coach still keeps an eye on the football program and attends some practices. Two quarterbacks have stood out to him so far.

“Feleipe (Franks) seems to be ahead, they’ll keep developing I guess through the summer,” Spurrier told Finebaum. “Then they’ve got a Wildcat quarterback, Kadarius Toney. I mean he can run and he’s a pretty decent passer. They’ve got a Wildcat that’s going to be a threat this year.”

Incumbent starter Luke Del Rio’s 2016 season ended early due to injury and he was sidelined during spring practice due to shoulder surgery. The competition for the starting job has centered around Franks and fellow redshirt freshman Kyle Trask. As Spurrier notes, Franks appears to be ahead of the two, but Toney stole the show in the spring game, logging the longest running plays of the night and scrambling his way out of a pass-rush and throwing a touchdown pass.

Florida has not featured a Wildcat quarterback in Jim McElwain’s tenure so far, but did have packages planned for WR Dre Massey who suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1 last season. With Toney, that appears to be changing.
