Florida has a huge game with Florida State today, but the Gators also have one eye looking ahead to the SEC Championship Game next Saturday.

It’s just how things work in this Florida-FSU rivalry. Practically every year.

Since the ACC Championship Game started in 2005, either Florida or Florida State has had more work to do the week after their rivalry game. In nine of the past 11 years, one of them still had work to do the next week. Neither team played in a title game in 2007 and 2011, but that’s been it.

But, amazingly, for all their collective successes of late there’s never been a game where BOTH of them had title games the following week.

Florida State played in the ACC title game in 2005, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Florida went to the SEC title game in 2006, 2008 and 2009, and they’re back this year, of course.

What’s it mean in the FSU-UF game itself? Not much for the Gators. Florida beat FSU in 2006, ’08 and ’09.

It’s different for Florida State. The Seminoles ventured off the the ACC title game after a loss to Florida in 2005 and 2012. FSU beat the Gators in 2010, ’12 and ’13.
