2014 Mississippi vs Arkansas
The Arkansas Razorbacks posted their second straight shutout in 2014 with a convincing 30-0 win over the Ole Miss Rebels on Senior Day in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Rebels actually out-gained the Razorbacks by five total yards for the game (316-311), but they also committed six turnovers amid a dominant performance by the Arkansas defense. Ole Miss averaged just 1.9 yards per carry in the run game and completed just 47 percent of their passes through the air, allowing Arkansas to amass an 8:02 edge in time of possession by game’s end.
Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace committed four of the Rebels’ six turnovers for the day, including two first half fumbles and two interceptions in the end zone to cost Ole Miss on a pair of potential scoring drives. Wallace also missed two series in the first half while being treated for an ankle injury, but he did not appear to be bothered by the ankle upon returning to the field.
Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen also went down in the second quarter after taking a knee to the back, and he would not return to the action following the injury. His backup (and younger brother) Austin Allen took over under center and completed 3 of 5 passes for 65 yards while nursing a lead for the Hogs’ dominant defense.
Brandon Allen had completed 5 of 10 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown before his departure.
Arkansas’ 30 points were the second-most scored against Ole Miss and its Landshark defense through 11 games in 2014. The Rebels entered the game with the nation’s No. 1 scoring defense and had only allowed more than 20 points once in their first 10 games prior to losing to the Razorbacks.
Arkansas also posted consecutive shutouts for the first time since joining the SEC in 1992, and it became the first team in college football history to shut out ranked opponents in back to back weeks.
