2014 Mississippi State vs LSU

The Mississippi State Bulldogs snapped a 15-game losing streak to ranked opponents with a 34-29 win over No. 8 LSU in a night game in Death Valley. It was Mississippi State’s first win over LSU since 1999 and its first win in Baton Rouge since 1991.

The Bulldogs were led by quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw for 268 yards and rushed for 105 yards in the victory. Prescott had a 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to extend the MSU lead at the time to 14 points, then connected with wideout Jameon Lewis on a 74-yard touchdown pass on the following drive to extend the lead once again, this time to 21 points.

Mississippi State tailback Josh Robinson added 197 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and wideout Jameon Lewis led MSU with five catches for 116 yards and a touchdown reception in the win.

Mississippi State ran up a 34-10 lead in the fourth quarter before LSU subbed out quarterback Anthony Jennings and subbed in freshman Brandon Harris, who led LSU to 19 unanswered points in the final quarter to close the gap substantially. The Tigers even had a chance at a Hail Mary on the game’s final play, coming ever so close to a magical comeback in Baton Rouge.

Jennings completed 13-of-26 passes for 157 yards, while  Harris completed 6-of-9 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns despite significantly less playing time. Freshman wideout Malachi Dupre caught four passes for 120 yards and two 30-yard touchdowns, while fellow wideout Travin Dural hauled in six catches for 124 yards in a losing effort.

The loss dropped LSU to 3-1, and improved unranked Mississippi State to 4-0 early in the 2014 season.
