2014 Vanderbilt vs Mississippi State
One week removed from its first loss of the 2014 season, Mississippi State got its season back on track with a convincing 51-0 win over Vanderbilt on the Bulldogs’ Senior Night in Starkville.
Dak Prescott overcame a three-interception performance against Alabama by completing 71 percent of his passes for 201 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. Eleven different Mississippi State players caught passes against the Commodores, led by Joe Morrow’s five catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs ran the ball 48 times compared to just 26 pass attempts, and they averaged better than five yards per carry on their way to 254 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Vanderbilt, on the other hand, amassed just 225 yards for the game and just 48 yards on the ground in a losing effort. The Commodores used three different quarterbacks after both Johnny McCrary and Patton Robinette left with injuries (Stephen Rivers was the third), but none of the three found any rhythm against the Bulldogs, combining to complete just 17 of 36 passes for 177 yards and two interceptions.
The Bulldogs improved to 10-1 in 2014 following the victory and improved their SEC record to an impressive 6-1 on the year. Vandy dropped to 3-8 on the season and 0-7 in the SEC, losing all seven conference games by at least 10 points apiece.
