Georgia QB Jake Fromm had his first career start at Notre Dame in 2017, and it was also a memorable night for Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, too.

In a media teleconference on Sunday, Kelly was asked what he remembered about Fromm from the 2017 meeting in South Bend, Indiana, a 20-19 Georgia victory.

“I thought he played with great poise,” Kelly said, according to audio on YouTube shared by Dawg Post. “I thought he was extremely efficient. He took care of the football. I think all of the things you get a glimpse at somebody when they’re a freshman and they exhibit those kind of traits, you know you have somebody that’s going to being that kind of special player. … He played with such poise, such confidence, he wasn’t afraid of the moment. He stepped up big. It doesn’t surprise me that he’s playing at the level he’s playing at.”

Fromm was 16-for-29 passing for 141 yards with a TD and interception. Fromm also fumbled in the second quarter. The touchdown was a memorable one-handed grab by Terry Godwin in the corner of the end zone.

Coming off a win against New Mexico, Kelly gave his first thoughts about his offense ahead of the Georgia game in the post-game Saturday night.

“I think we needed this game to kind of, as I mentioned earlier, to find some of the pieces that are going to be needed to make explosive plays. You’re not going to beat Georgia by just three yards here, four yards. You’re going to have to make some explosive plays. We needed to see that happen today,” Kelly said. “Having said that, we can’t give up big plays like we did in the running game today and we have to find explosive plays on our offense. Those two came together today against New Mexico. Doesn’t mean they are coming against Georgia, but we know a little bit more about our football team, which allows us to put together a plan of action as we go and tackle a very good opponent on the road.”

The game is set for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff in Athens, Georgia and be televised on CBS.
