G-Day was a huge success. Since 93,000 fans packed Sanford Stadium, Georgia wanted to give Bulldogs fans some extra entertainment.

In the days leading up to the scrimmage, UGA booked Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris, who hails from Atlanta, for a short set to pump up the crowd. After Ludacris’ concert rider leaked, however, it appeared the Bulldogs had paid a lot in cash ($65,000) and freebies, including vodka and condoms, for a 13-minute performance.

Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity apologized to the Georgia athletics board of director Thursday according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

“I do want to take this opportunity to apologize to our board for mistakes we made with certain aspects of the details of an entertainment agreement,” McGarity told the board. “Few things in my professional life have bothered me more than this situation. There are no reruns in life so we need to turn the page, learn from our mistakes and do everything we can to make sure errors of this nature do not reoccur.”

The apology appears to have been accepted, per Weizer:

After the quarterly meeting, UGA president Jere Morehead said he “certainly appreciated that the athletic department took responsibility for some of the terms in that contract. Obviously in retrospect they should have done a more thorough job of reviewing all of the riders and removing those that were objectionable. I appreciate that he’s accepted that that’s what athletics should have done and what it will do moving forward.”

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart was asked about the rider controversy last month, and told radio host Paul Finebaum he was not aware of the contract details prior to the performance.
