One of the biggest question marks facing the Georgia Bulldogs heading into the 2016 season is the inside linebacker position. Nothing was set in stone after Saturday’s second fall scrimmage, but some depth chart positions began to take shape.

Sophomores Roquan Smith and Natrez Patrick, along with junior Reggie Carter, are battling for starting spots after the transfer of former starter Tim Kimbrough.

Though the three linebackers are battling for, at most, two starting spots, coach Kirby Smart expects all three to contribute in a big way.

According to DawgNation.com, all three players are going to get ample playing time in 2016:

“We’re trying to find five guys who can play at that position. We’re comfortable with three,” Smart said. “I don’t look at it as Roquan’s a starter, Natrez is a starter, Reggie is a starter. They’re all starters. They all have to play for us.”

Also on defense, Smart had praise for recent graduate transfer DB Maurice Smith, who has performed well since coming over from Alabama:

“He’s picked up the (defensive) scheme well,” Smart said. “Probably the toughest transition for him is special teams, because things aren’t exactly the same.”

Offensively, the Bulldogs have yet to name a starting quarterback, but Smart did mention one player who stood out on that side of the ball — senior WR Reggie Davis:

“He’s had a good camp,” Smart said. “Reggie’s an experience receiver. He’s got a good burst. He’s playing really hard. He’s playing good on special teams. Reggie plays the game the right way, and you appreciate that. And quarterbacks reward guys that play the right way.”

Georgia starts the season on Saturday, Sept. 3, against North Carolina at the Georgia Dome.
