When former Alabama defensive back Maurice Smith was finally allowed to transfer to Georgia, there wasn’t much time to waste. With only a few weeks left until the Bulldogs’ season opener, Smith needed to adjust to his new team quickly.

It appears he’s doing just that.

“(Smith’s) worked at the nickel spot, he’s worked at the corner spot,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters, according to the Macon Telegraph. “He’s picking up the defense really easily and been able to communicate with the other players.”

Having worked with Smart and Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator Mel Tucker at Alabama is certainly a huge benefit for Smith. He’s been a vocal player at practice, which demonstrates his comfort with the system.

Georgia already has a veteran secondary in place, but Smith provides another quality option for the coaches to call upon and could see plenty of playing time in his first and only season with the Bulldogs.
