Georgia redshirt freshman Tae Crowder has only been an inside linebacker for a little over a week, but already he’s made an impression on his coach.

“He’s not a starter, he can’t walk over and learn all the stuff we do,” Kirby Smart said, according to The Telegraph. “But he has been a pleasant surprise I would say with the physicality part and work ethic.”

Crowder moved from running back to his new spot on the Bulldogs defense during the bye week in hopes utilizing his athleticism to pad up the depth at the position, since the team is already so deep in the backfield with the likes of Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, Elijah Holyfield and Brendan Douglas.

Now he’s behind veteran linebackers Natrez Patrick, Roquan Smith and Reggie Carter, but could see some playing time much sooner with his new role.

“I think he’s got a shot,” Smart said. “Not in this game, I don’t think that’s the case, but for a 230-pound, 6-foot-2 guy, shoot, he’s a pretty good athlete.”

Georgia will head to Jacksonville, Fl. for its rivalry series with Florida this Saturday.
