It’s been a big 24 hours for Georgia fans interested in recruiting.

Justin Fields, a 5-star quarterback recruit from Kennesaw, Ga., on Thursday night during a game that was televised on ESPN2, suffered a broken right index finger on his throwing hand.

Fields, who plays for Harrison High School, is rated as the nation’s No. 1 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He committed to Georgia on Oct. 6.

Several reports are out that Fields is out for the remainder of the high school season.

The 6-foot-3, 221-pound prospect suffered the injury during a running play Thursday night when he was tackled by two Dalton defenders. Fields immediately got up and took himself out of the game, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. He appeared to be in a lot of pain on the sideline, and he had ice on his hand the entire fourth quarter.

Harrison coach Matt Dickmann told that paper that Fields would have surgery on Monday.

In front of the nationally-televised audience and Georgia coach Kirby Smart, who arrived at the game by helicopter, Fields delivered. He reportedly ran 23 times for 211 yards and a touchdown. He was also 7-of-11 passing for 185 yards and a touchdown to help lead the Hoyas to a 28-26 victory.

Fields also shared a picture of the X-Ray on Snapchat, and @UGAfootballLive captured a video of the injury.
