History will be made tonight in the world of college football.

At 7:30 p.m. ET, the College Football Playoff selection committee will release its first official rankings, signaling the official start of a new era in college football.

This groundbreaking show will definitely have one viewer — Georgia head coach Mark Richt.

“I’ll check that out,” Richt said at his press conference on Tuesday. “I’m sure everybody will check that out. I’m not too concerned where we are, where everybody else is for that matter. There’s just so much football to be played, we know things are going to change over time. It’ll be interesting to see how that things gets started anyway, even the show itself.”

Richt first started at Georgia in 2001, which was the BCS’ fourth year of existence. In the old system, computer formulas made the determination in which teams were the best, but now in the CFP a committee of 12 people will now make that fateful decision.

Everyone is wondering just how the human element will play a role in deciding the four teams deserving of a playoff spot and if winning convincingly will be a top priority. According to the Georgia head coach, he’s just focused on winning games, not winning by a certain amount of points, especially in a conference as tough as the SEC.

“I used to think about winning convincingly before I got to Georgia. Within about two games I realized, like Al Davis said, ‘Just win, baby, just win.’ Whether it’s one point, three points, whether you score 40 points, nine points, that’s all I really concern myself with.”

“I don’t think we’re in a league that you can sit there and try to start naming your number,” Richt added. “I don’t know if we’re good enough to start naming our number. We just need to try to get a victory.”

The Georgia Bulldogs will be one of several SEC teams among the discussion for the initial top four spots in the rankings. With a 6-1 overall record and a 4-1 conference record, UGA finds itself ranked in the top-10 and as a heavy favorite for the SEC Championship as the current leader of the SEC East.

There are still several weeks left in the season and with games against Florida, Kentucky and Auburn, anything can happen in regard to Georgia’s postseason prospects, but UGA fans have to love a likely top-10 spot in the inaugural rankings.
