The Georgia Bulldogs have to rebound quickly ahead of Saturday’s game against Tennessee. UGA travels to Neyland Stadium this weekend to take on a disappointed 2-3 Volunteers team that is coming off a loss to Arkansas.

Georgia, however, was throttled this past Saturday against Alabama 38-10, and except for an 83-yard Nick Chubb touchdown run, no bright spots were had. Of course, now, everyone is talking about Mark Richt.

“When you get beat that way it certainly gets everyone’s attention. I think any loss does … Sometimes you get whipped,” Richt said Tuesday.

“Our big thing is to grow from it.”

Richt also knows that not many SEC teams have been undefeated when they’ve won the conference championship, and there’s plenty of opportunities for reverse course in front of his team for the rest of the season. That starts Saturday against Tennessee.

“How many SEC teams have won the league going undefeated in the last 10 years?” Richt asked.

Tennessee’s running game — QB Joshua Dobbs and RBs Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara — will present challenges to Georgia’s defense. Alabama’s offense racked up nearly 200 yards rushing, and with a mobile quarterback, Tennessee’s offense could be just as challenging, if not more.

Here’s what Richt said Tuesday about Tennessee:

  • Richt said UGA really wanted Kamara, and he envisioned him impacting Georgia exactly how he impacts Tennessee — rushing and special teams.
  • Calls QB Joshua Dobbs a “dynamic” player, a very versatile athlete and a great quarterback who will present tremendous challenges.
  • Noted that linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin is Tennessee’s best tackler.
  • By far, statistically, the best special teams the Bulldogs have faced this year. Richt noted that the Vols’ kickoff and punt returns have been very good.
