This week was a game changer for die-hard college football fans as both Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports have released their 2017 college football preview magazines. The arrival of the preseason magazines are great for multiple reasons, not only are they fantastic reads to enjoy, they help pass the time before fall arrives while also signaling the countdown to the college football season.

Both magazines can be found at major bookstore chains as well as the online stores of both Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports. In addition to the traditional national college football editions, both outlets now provide exclusive Southeastern Conference editions filled with even more content for SEC fans to enjoy.

One particularly interesting section of each SEC magazine features thoughts and viewpoints from anonymous opposing coaches. The Bulldog sections of these magazines had some particularly interesting things to say about returning starting quarterback Jacob Eason. While they agree Georgia has the most talent in the East, they both have reservations about picking the Bulldogs to advance to Atlanta next season.

Here’s a sampling of some of the more interesting nuggets opposing coaches see when evaluating Georgia.

Opposing coaches views on Georgia via Athlon Sports’ 2017 SEC preview magazine:

“I think they are the big question mark in our league. Talent-wise they’re getting better than anybody in the East in very short order. Everybody knows what the blue-chip count relative to the rest of the division was in recruiting this year. Kirby (Smart) has done a really good job. He’s locked down the state, brought in a bunch of good players, and he basically signed everyone he’s supposed to sign… I respect what he does on defense, but I would say he’s not the most problematic of everyone we play. It will be a lot more interesting once he’s got two full springs and his kids know what’s going on… To be honest, I think (Jacob) Eason is a pretty average quarterback. I really don’t know how much he likes football. It’s hard to dispute his talent, and he can make every throw. But when you watch him, he’s not consistent at all. He’s a physically gifted as anybody around, but he doesn’t scare you.”

Opposing coaches views on Georgia via Lindy’s Sports’ 2017 SEC preview magazine:

“I think Georgia is as talented as anybody in our league other than Alabama. I think they underperformed last year. Kirby Smart was a typical first-year coach; he lost some games he should have won. They lost to Tennessee and should have won that game. They lost to Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. That (stuff) has got to get corrected… They played with a true freshman quarterback and he played well at times. But the offensive line is a concern. The running backs will help Eason in some games, but against the right team when you can’t run the ball, it puts it right back on the offensive line to protect the quarterback, and the quarterback’s got to throw it… I wouldn’t pick Georgia to win the East. I pick Florida. Why? It goes back to confidence.”

Not exactly a glowing review for the former five-star sensation from Washington. It will be interesting to see how Eason responds to the growing discontent there seems to be around Bulldog Nation with true freshman Jake Fromm already on campus and looking good this spring. Eason very well could take his game to a new level in his second year in Athens and quiet the doubters in a hurry. However, if he fails to accomplish that goal, how eager will Smart be to pull the trigger on yet another true freshman signal caller?
