It was never a game on Saturday afternoon in Athens. The Georgia Bulldogs made quick disposal of a putrid Troy team in the 66-0 win. The 66 points scored are the most for Georgia in Mark Richt’s tenure in Athens.

The offense rolled, racking up 547 yards of total offense and freshmen Sony Michel and Isaiah McKenzie introduced themselves to the world with big performances.

Here are a couple of thoughts on the game:

What it means: Not much. Troy was once a serviceable opponent, but that was not the Troy team we saw on Saturday afternoon between the hedges. A lot of young guys got game experience on Saturday on both sides of the ball which could prove important later in the year. Tennessee comes calling which is going to be a very competitive game, and we’ll see just how much the secondary and passing game have improved.

What I liked: The Georgia defense played better in coverage and tackled well on Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Pruitt’s unit allowed just 216 yards of total offense. The secondary struggled at the start against Troy as the Trojans drove down the field rather easily on the opening drive of the game but missed a chip-shot field goal to take an early three point lead. Troy could not move the ball the rest of the afternoon, but now Tennessee comes calling that features some playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.

Who’s the man: Sony Michel. The true freshman from Plantation, Fla. introduced himself to the college football world on Saturday rushing for 155 yards on 10 carries and three touchdowns. Michel got the bulk of the carries for the Bulldogs on Saturday and did not disappoint.

Key play: On Troy’s second drive of the game, quarterback Dontreal Pruitt completed a sure first down pass over the middle, but cornerback Rico Johnson forced a fumble that safety Aaron Davis recovered and returned inside the Georgia red zone. That play led to a Georgia score and the Bulldogs would roll from there.
