A football coach will do anything to get as much talent on the field as possible — utilizing the players’ skill-sets and athleticism to the best of their ability.

During the bye week, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart decided to tinker a bit with his personnel as a means to strengthen other positions within his squad.

Via a report from Online Athens, Smart has decided to move running back Tae Crowder to inside linebacker, receiver Shakenneth Williams to defensive back, and defensive lineman Michael Barnett to offensive tackle.

Barnett’s move is a fascinating one. A former 4-star recruit out of South Carolina, he hasn’t quite been able to fortify himself as a consistent member of the rotation. The thought is that he’ll be able to impact a unit Georgia needs immense help at.

Smart had this to say on the personnel moves:

“We feel like those three guys are athletically probably better athletes than where they are on their current spot on the depth chart. So we’re going to give those guys some work, find out what they can do. It’s really about us getting better. It’s developmental. We’ll teach them what to do but we want to see what they can do.”
