The Georgia Bulldogs have put together an impressive season, but the defense, led by LB Roquan Smith, will have its hands full when taking on Oklahoma and QB Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield and the Sooners offense have been on fire for much of this season. Oklahoma is averaging more than 40 points per game this season while Mayfield has been lights out and went on to capture the Heisman Trophy.

In a media session on Monday, Smith was asked about the challenges of facing a Heisman winner. He acknowledged that Mayfield presents a huge challenge, but there are other players to be concerned with:

“It’s definitely going to be a huge challenge stopping him,” Smith admitted, “But they’ve got a lot of other weapons on that side of the ball.” However, Smith did say that he always gets excited for any new challenge that comes along.

He was also asked about his perception of legendary LB Dick Butkus and winning the prestigious Butkus Award as the nation’s top LB this season:

“It’s a dream come true to take home an award like that,” said Smith. “He played wreckless, no regards for his body or anything like that. If he had a chance to take you out, he would.”

Someone also brought up Mayfield being known as a verbal player when on the field. While Smith did admit to getting verbal from time to time, he said he prefers to let his game do the talking and will focus on making plays:

“I’m verbal sometimes as well, but I’m moreso about making plays,” said Smith. “You make plays, that speaks for itself.”
