Georgia isn’t new to having impressive freshmen compete for playing time. That’s really a regularity for the Bulldogs.

Nick Chubb, Todd Gurley and Lorenzo Carter are just three of the many who come to mind.

Count Georgia senior offensive tackle John Theus as one who’s impressed with two UGA freshmen, defensive lineman Trent Thompson and linebacker Roquan Smith. Theus opened up about the freshmen at SEC Media Days, and 247Sports had the interview.

“Some guys who will definitely be able to help us. I’ll be gone after this year but they’ll develop into some really good players,” Theus said.

“With Trent, obviously he’s a big ole boy but what impressed me is that he’s not just crazy bull rush and just using all his size. He’s got some football IQ about him, some technique, and I was impressed for a freshman to do that. With Roquan, it’s just the way he runs. You know, (Alec) Ogletree was able to run sideline to sideline. I think Roquan possesses that same type of ability.”

Thompson ended up as the No. 1 prospect in the country, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, while Smith finished as the No. 47 overall prospect.

Both players are two of the most anticipated freshmen to watch in 2015.
